Project work Ansering The Questions

1 Who were the Shakespeares and the Ardens, and what was each family's place in local society?

William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and mother Mary Arden some time in late April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. There is no record of his birth, but his baptism was recorded by the church, thus his birthday is assumed to be the 23 of April. His father was a prominent and prosperous alderman in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, and was later granted a coat of arms by the College of Heralds. All that is known of Shakespeare's youth is that he presumably attended the Stratford Grammar School, and did not proceed to Oxford or Cambridge. The next record we have of him is his marriage to Anne Hathaway in 1582. The next year she bore a daughter for him, Susanna, followed by the twins Judith and Hamnet two years later.

2 When do historians think that Shakespeare arrived in London? What is the reason he may have had to leave Stratford?
He arrived in London in about 1588, he may have had to leave Stratford because he was caught stealing . Shakespeare ent to Londdon and become interested in the world of theatre.

3 What was the population of London during Shakespeare's time? Can you briefly describe what the city was like at the time? How did it smell like?

They went to theatre to saw Shakespeare , in the 1640 in United Kingdom has got civil war, The King lost and was beheaded in London in 1649
A bubonic plague
In 1665, rats on board trading ships brought bubonic plague into the city of London. Because people lived in very close quarters and hygiene standards were very low, it spread very quickly
The Great Fire of London, 1666
A small fire, accidentally started in Pudding Lane in the City of London in September of 1666, was the cause of an enormous fire which lasted four days and wiped out 80% of London.

4Who was the ruler when Shakespeare first came to London? Who were her parents? Was she a good queen? Why?

Elizabeth I was 25 years old when she became Queen of England in 1558. Her 45-year reign, which ended with her death in 1603, saw England's emergence as a nation of tremendous political power and unparalleled cultural achievement. Because so much of this English renaissance is directly attributable to Elizabeth's personal character and influence (as well as to the unprecedented length of her reign), it is appropriate that the last half of the sixteenth century in England is identified as the Elizabethan Period.
The very fact that Elizabeth became Queen at all almost indicates some predestination toward greatness and defiance of normal expectations. The daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn (who later was executed for treason), Elizabeth was third in line of succession, following her younger half-brother Edward (son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour) and her older half-sister Mary (daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon). Under normal circumstances, it would be unlikely that she would ever assume the throne.
She was a good queen becasue she organized the teahtre.

5. What was the established religion in England during Shakespeare times? Who was Henry VIII? How did he and his daughter influence religion in England?

It was a catholic , he was king of England Henry VIII (1491-1547), king of England (1509-1547), the image of the Renaissance king, he has got a six wifes and fought numerous wars in Europe
He ruthlessly increased the power of royal government, using Parliament to sanction his actions. He daughter changed the religion catholic for protestant.

6. Who was Cristopher Marlowe? Which kind of relationship did he have with Shakespeare? How did he die? What might have been suspicious circumstances surrounding his death?

He was a writer hs work had in fluence on Shakespeare early plays, was educated at Cambridge and he went to London in 1587, where he became an actor and dramatist for the Lord Admiral's Company. His most important plays are the two parts of Tamburlaine the Great he was killed in a fight in a Tavern People thought Shakespeare wanted him killed.

7. How many sonnets did Shakespeare write? Who is believed to be the "Dark Lady" of the sonnets? Who else, other than Shakespeare, is believed to have written his plays?

It is believed that William Shakespeare wrote a total of 154 sonnets in total
Sonnets 127-152 are addressed to a woman commonly known as the 'Dark Lady' because her hair is said to be black and her skin. These sonnets are explicitly sexual in character, in contrast to those written to the "Fair Youth". It is implied that the speaker of the sonnets and the Lady had a passionate affair. Christopher Marlowe was who writed some the works of shakespeare

8 Who were the Puritans? What were some of their beliefs? What did they think of the theatre and the actors in Shakespeare's time?

Puritans were radical Protestants. They were extraordinarily devout, dedicated to doing away with the pomp and ceremony of the Roman Catholic Church. They believed that worship should be simple and regular.
They also believed that most forms of luxury and pleasure were inherently sinful and should be avoided at all costs. This last fact may well explain why Puritanism never became as popular as Catholicism.
To the Puritans of Elizabethan England all forms of entertainment, especially the theatre, served as a graphic illustration of the moral decline of the country. Many Puritans called, without success, for a complete ban on such activities.

9. What were the main theatres in Shakespeare's times? Where did Shakespeare use to act? What are the names of the acting companies with which Shakespeare was associated?

the Theatre, further open air playhouses ( theaters ) opened in the London area, including the Rose Theatre (1587), and the Hope Theatre (1613). The most famous Elizabethan playhouse ( theater ) was the Globe Theatre (1599) built by the company in which Shakespeare had a stake - now often referred to as the Shakespearean Globe.
